Capitol & National Archives - Day Six

I know, I know..... I have been slacking in the blogging department! Now that we have completed our first two weeks of school, maybe I can get back in the groove!

Anyway, Washington vacation continued..... We spent our 6th day touring the Capitol building. It was really amazing and so beautiful!!! Our newly elected Congressman, Travis Childers, could not give us a tour because he was in Iraq visting our troops, so we got the next best thing, his intern!

The sun is too bright for Parker! He couldn't look at the camera!

Kelly and the kids keeping Congressman Childers chair warm for him!

Okay, just a little trivia! The Rotunda is so big, the entire Statue of Liberty could fit inside it! That may give you a little perspective. Hanging in the Rotunda are giant canvases telling stories of America's history and at the very top is a painting of Washington surrounded by symbols of American democracy. The detail was truly amazing!

After touring the Capitol, we headed over to the National Archives.

Me showing Kelly my "mean" face!

Hummm?! Not sure what these two were doing!!

The boys entertained themselves playing in the shade while waiting an HOUR in line to get inside the archives!

Many of the country's most important papers, pictures and documents are kept safe in this building. The most famous are the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We were able to view all of them.

Another exhasting, but fun filled day!
